Ingeniously green Print E-mail

Recycling can harm the environment. A shock, but it’s true, especially on windy Wellington days that result in residents – and council contractors – collecting strewn recycling before it clogs drains, mucks up gardens and pollutes waterways.
Tai Haronga and the ClearTide team have come to the rescue with the fabulous EnviroFlexiNet. This keeps recycling content safely in the open bin and has the thumbs up from Hutt City residents after a trial there last year. Of residents who used it, 99 per cent said they’d buy one at the right price. In fact EnviroFlexiNet seems to impress everyone who sees it. At the recent WasteMinz Expo in Blenheim, the EnviroFlexiNet was described as “the best bit of kiwi ingenuity around.”
Tai hopes that New Zealand councils will commit to the product. It saves money on additional street cleaning and repairs and it keeps constituents happy as they enjoy clean streets – even on windy recycling days! Clean, green and kiwi made, what more could they want?

Unwrapping Wellington Print E-mail

In our last edition Esme Gibbins painted Wellington as vibrant, bustling and overflowing with culture. Was she right or is our city still seen as a dull and boring stop on the way south?

We tracked three Auckland visitors from their arrival at a near deserted Wellington airport one Friday night through a  sunny Saturday in the CBD – shopping, browsing, eating then glamming up for a night out at St James theatre.

Would they have a quirky and playful time as the ‘Spoil yourself in Wellington’ ad campaign suggests you should?

Aucklanders have been known to slag our capital city from time to time, but at the end of a wind free weekend the girls had some rather nice things to say – Esme would be pleased;

“The Central City Hotel was spot on for relaxing with harbour views, fantastic service and location, location.”

“48 hours is far too short a time to explore the many gifts of this city”

“The ferry on the harbour is a great reminder that Wellington is the centre of New Zealand”

“’…the incredible St James Theatre – age and vibrant present mixed.” And the last quote sums it up perfectly –“Wellington is a great tourist destination!”

These ladies agree with our new Tourism CEO that Wellington is a ‘must-visit’ destination, next time they’ll stay longer.

Rotary means business Print E-mail

Business people belong to Rotary because it provides an opportunity to network with like-minded people and to help raise funds for numerous local and international projects.  It also provides an excellent environment for informal mentoring over a weekly meal.  In Wellington there are breakfast, lunch and dinner meetings with invited speakers on local and international issues, many of them relevant to Wellington’s business sector.

Projects include sponsoring international vocational exchanges, assisting local charities with fundraising as well as contributing to relief efforts overseas. In future editions, IN-Business has invited Rotary to tell readers about key projects with insights from some of the business people who are Rotarians in the Wellington community.
